What you already need to know
This course is suitable for beginners and those who wish to improve their knowledge of basic yoga techniques. The beginner - improver level is appropriate for those with less than 3 years experience of yoga.
- A degree of mobility is required. You will be expected to access the floor from standing, to sitting, kneeling, lying down and getting back up to be able to participate in the range of movements and relaxation.
- This course is not suitable for those in the early stages of pregnancy (16 weeks or before) or pregnant and who have no previous yoga experience. We would recommend, in both cases, looking for a specialist prenatal or pregnancy yoga course.
- Students are expected to understand and work within their personal movement range, being able to use adjustment for any limitations they may have.
To be able to participate in this course, all students are required to complete and return a pre-course health questionnaire before the first session.
What you will learn
- Practise yoga postures (Asana) from the three major movement groups to improve flexibility and strength
- Access and improve your personal movement range with regard to flexibility and strength within the postures
- Practise one breathing (pranayama) technique and be encouraged to notice the effect it has on you throughout the day and beyond
How you will learn it
This practical course is reinforced by demonstration and discussion and modified depending on student interest. Movements are broken down and then layered, developing a solid base from which you can progress. You are encouraged to develop an awareness of your body and movement patterns to identify personally beneficial breathing techniques.
