Course overview
ESOL courses are for people whose first language is not English. They are designed to help you improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening English skills for everyday life, for communicating with friends and for working in the UK. This is an entry 1 English course for those with a few words of spoken English.
Where Uckfield Civic Centre, Civic Approach, Uckfield, East Sussex, TN22 1AE.
When
Thursday, 10:00am - 12:00pm from 28th September 2023 until 8th February 2024 for 16 weeks.
There are no classes on the following Thursdays:
26th October (Half Term), 2nd November, 21st & 28th December, (Christmas holidays).
Following classes Thursday 25th January, 1st & 8th February will be held at ACRES House, Downsview Crescent, Uckfield, TN22 3DJ
This course is FREE to students on low income or receiving some kinds of benefits. Students who do not qualify for free courses can apply for a reduced fee. Please talk to us for more information.

During the course
To make good progress in English you are expected to attend all classes unless you are ill or have an emergency.
Classes are for students only. No children, hosts or other family members may attend.

No prior knowledge needed.
What you will learn
This course introduces basic skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening, including learning:
- How to listen for information when people are speaking
- Follow simple instructions
- Share information
- Ask questions and make requests
- Take part in simple discussions
This course is for students to improve their English speaking and listening skills. There is no qualification.
How you will learn it
You will learn in a small friendly class, practising your English with other ESOL students.

Extra study or practice
You will be given some tasks to complete between lessons.
Practise using English as much as possible.
