Course overview

ESOL courses are for people whose first language is not English. They are designed to help you improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening English skills for everyday life, for communicating with friends and for working in the UK.

This course is Level 1 - it is for those who can communicate in spoken English but wish to improve their vocabulary, grammar and reading skills.

This is Part Two of Two 15-week courses. If you wish to gain a qualification you MUST attend BOTH courses.

It is FREE to students on low income or receiving some kinds of benefits. Students who do not qualify for free courses can apply for a reduced fee. Please talk to us for more information.

Non ESFA eligible students can still enrol on this course but will pay the full non-funded rate which can be obtained from the ACRES Business Manager.

When Thursday, 09:30am - 11:45am from 23rd February 2023 until 6th July 2023 for 17 weeks.

There are no classes on the following Thursdays:
6th & 13th April (Spring break), 1st June (Half Term)
Cost The full fee is £324.00. The concessionary fee is £0.00.

During the course

To make good progress in English and particularly if you want to gain a qualification, you are expected to attend all classes unless you are ill or have an emergency.
Classes are for students only. No children, hosts or other family members may attend.

What you already need to know

You do not need to have an ESOL qualification before taking this course, but you will need to have sufficient experience of speaking and using English to take a course that is at L1.
All new students are invited to meet with an ESOL tutor before joining a course, to assess which level is right for them to study.

What you will learn

This course focuses on Reading skills. As part of the course, you will develop your skills, not just in reading but also in writing, listening and speaking so that you may feel more able to take part in everyday situations of work, education, health, with friends and shopping.

You will have the opportunity to work towards a qualification if you choose. This is the 2nd of two 15-week courses. Courses can be taken separately, but students MUST attend BOTH to gain a qualification. Your tutor will give you more information and discuss the qualification with you.

How you will learn it

You will learn directly from your tutor and through presentations, watching and listening to videos and the spoken word, practice activities and discussions. Throughout the course, your tutor will support you and discuss and agree on personal targets to help you reach your potential.

A requirement of this course is that you complete at least 1 hour of study a week but we advise you to practise your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills as much as possible.

Step 1 GET IN CONTACT
Let ACRES know you are interested in an ESOL course.

Step 2 MEET THE TUTOR
We will invite you to meet one of the tutors. If possible this will be in ACRES' House but can take place online. If your meeting is online ask the ACRES team or visit our website for step-by-step instructions for joining an online meeting.

Step 3 COMPLETE YOUR ENROLMENT
At your meeting, you and your tutor will agree on a time to come to the ACRES House before starting your course.
