Course overview

Once anonymity was the norm. Artists simply didn't sign their work.
This 3 hour session looks at the reasons as to how and why this began to change; how the role of the artists grew in stature and how, as recognistion grew, some individual artists ultimately became superstars and even brands!

Where Sixth Form Centre, Heathfield Community College, Cade St. Old Heathfield, East Sussex, TN21 8RJ.
When Saturday, 10:00am - 1:00pm on 13th May 2023 for 1 day.

Registration is from 9:30 am ACRES staff will welcome you and offer a complimentary drink.
Cost The full fee is £33.00.

What you already need to know

No prior knowledge is needed.

What you will learn

Taking in everything from the anonymous cave painters and masters of the Middle Ages, via Jan van Eyck, Michelangelo and Rembrandt through to Picasso (whose instantly recognisable signature became a work of art in its own right) and beyond.
Along the way we'll be looking at the different, sometimes playful way that artists' used their signatures within their work.

Through presentations and audio-visuals, interaction, discussion and activities you will discover your feelings and develop your opinions on the subject.

A pen and paper (or electronic equivalent) for optional note taking.
