Course overview
Virginia Woolf is one of the best known and most innovative authors of the twentieth century; a leading light of the modernist movement, a trailblazer for women's writing and a member of the Bloomsbury Group. Today she inspires everything from criticism to adulation - her work assumed by some to be 'a difficult read' is yet more popular than ever.
During this 5 week course, through our exploration of Virginia Woolf's major works, novels and letters we will discover just how accessible her writing really is and how much her works can be enjoyed and appreciated.

Cost
The full fee is £72.00.

During the course
You will gain:
- An overview of the writings of Virginia Woolf
- The ability to recognise and identify leading themes and ideas
- An understanding of parallels in her work, with her own life / autobiographical element
- Placing Woolf within the context of her times and writing in general
- Active participation in discussions with other students
- Develop, express and rationalise your point of view

What you will learn
This five-week course will look at Woolf's major works. During weeks 1 - 4 we will take a different novel each week, looking at the themes she explores, the techniques she employs, the characters she introduces and the autobiographical element contained within. How the stories fit into her own life and that of society around her.
In week 5 we will be studying her essays and letters.

How you will learn it
A fun, informative class that uses a mix of presentations, discussion, handouts and audio-visuals to bring artwork to life. You will have plenty of opportunity to join in discussions, ask questions and interact with the tutor and other group members.

Extra study or practice
Reading some of the works of Virginia Woolf independently will enhance your enjoyment of the course.
