Sussex History - Rudyard Kipling **COURSE CANCELLED** (UC10U23D)
Enjoy a discussion filled morning exploring the Sussex life of world famous writer Rudyard Kipling
Course overview
Rudyard Kipling has been called 'the Bard of Empire' and is probably best known for his stories set in India and Africa, such as the ever-popular Jungle Book and The Just-So Stories.
But Kipling spent much of the last forty years of his life living in Sussex, first at Rottingdean near Brighton and then at Bateman's in the village of Burwash where he lived until his death in 1936.
Kipling fell in love with Sussex and celebrated it in verse, capturing its 'sure magic' in such descriptions as 'the whale-backed downs' and the 'blue goodness of the Weald'.
This three-hour course will explore the Sussex-based life of this world-famous writer.
It will give insights to Kipling's life and, by the end of the day, you will have developed enough knowledge to make future visits to Bateman's more rewarding and enjoyable.
