Improve your map reading skills and have more confidence to get out there.
Course overview
Improve your navigation skills, pacing, reading a map, and using a compass. What to do in an emergency. Use your phone to pinpoint your exact location and alert emergency services.
A proportion of the day will be outside. Please check the forecast and bring appropriate clothing layers and footwear for all weathers.
No refund will be offered should a decision be made that the conditions do not allow you to go outside, however the course will go ahead indoors.

Saturday, 10:00am - 4:00pm on 14th May 2022 for 1 day.
Cost
The full fee is £58.00.
What you already need to know
We will be both classroom-based and outside.
What you will learn
The day will be split into classroom-based learning and real practice outside in the Heathfield countryside and pathways.
How you will learn it
- From tutor demonstrations and putting what you've learnt into practice.
- From individual tuition
- Group practice
You will be given a map of the area to use for the day and a loan of a compass if needed.
Bring to the first session
Walking boots, waterproof jacket, rucksack. Compass and mobile phone if you have one.
** Please bring a packed lunch as food is not provided at the venue.* Tea, coffee and biscuits are available for purchase during breaks.
Footpaths are uneven and can be wet and muddy.
We recommend wearing long trousers or covering legs completely.
Footpaths are enjoyed by all members of the community, including dog walkers. We wish to make you aware that there may be dogs off their leads or livestock in fields.
Please respect the natural landscape and do not disturb the wildlife. We ask that you take any rubbish away with you and dispose of it at home.

Specific Covid Considerations:
From 24th February, following the government's announcement removing all domestic restrictions in England, we ask that you follow the published
HSA guidelines.
Asymptomatic testing will no longer be required to attend classes. However, we strongly suggest if you do have symptoms of Covid-19, you do not attend your class and follow guidelines found on
www.NHS.uk.
We ask individuals to continue to respect the personal choices of their tutor and fellow students.
- ACRES will continue to supply hand sanitisers in all classrooms
- Students will still be able to work social distanced or on separate tables if this is their choice
- Sharing of equipment will continue to be kept to a minimum, and wipes/spray provided for cleaning being handling
- Tutors and students may or may not choose to wear face coverings
