What you already need to know

No experience is required. All abilities are welcome.

What you will learn

Beginners will initially focus on developing their hand-building skills. This knowledge will then be expanded by modelling and building a free-standing, figurative or decorative piece. Those with more experience will work on project pieces.

How you will learn it

You will learn which clays will be appropriate for different tasks and how clay is manipulated to create different forms in ceramic design. The tutor will demonstrate various techniques, students will then have the opportunity to create their own pieces of work.

Before and after using any shared equipment, students will be asked to wash their hands.

Bring to the first session

Materials will be provided for small and medium-sized pieces of work.

Larger items can be produced, and additional materials can be purchased from the tutor, or the tutor can advise where to buy clay and equipment if you choose to create large works of art. Speak to your tutor if you are unsure.

Extra study or practice

You may wish to use a sketchbook at home to develop designs and ideas.
Artists and Studio Potter research will expand your knowledge of the subject and may prompt areas for development in your 3D work.
