If English is not your first language, this course will help you to improve your speaking and listening skills. If you wish, you can take an exam at the end of the course to get an ESOL qualification.

This course is FREE to students on low income or receiving some kinds of benefits. Students who do not qualify for free courses can apply for a reduced fee. Please talk to us for more information.

Non ESFA eligible students can still enrol on this course but will pay the full non-funded rate which can be obtained from the ACRES Business Manager.


Where This is an online course.
When Tuesday and Thursday, 09:30am - 12:00pm from 6th October 2020 until 11th February 2021 for 16 weeks.

27th, 29th October (Half Term), 22nd, 24th, 29th and 31st December (Christmas and New Year)
Cost The full fee is £562.00. The concessionary fee is £0.00.

During the course

This is an ONLINE course using the video platform Google Meet. It is taught in real-time by a tutor on Tuesday and Thursday mornings 9:30 to 12:00.

You will need

You may wish to create a separate email account for your online learning before the start of the course and let the ACRES' team and your tutor know the address. This will be more secure and also allow you to share your email address with other students on the course to enhance your learning experience, without disclosing your personal information.


What you already need to know

You do not need to have an ESOL qualification before taking this course. Before joining the course you will meet your tutor who will help find the right course for you.


What you will learn

You will develop your skills in listening and speaking so that you may feel more able to take part in everyday situations of work, education, health, with friends and shopping.


If you wish, you can take an exam at the end of the course to get an ESOL qualification in Speaking and Listening. The exam will take place over 4th, 9th and 11th February at the Uckfield Civic Centre, Uckfield.


How you will learn it

This is a realtime online course. You will learn directly from your tutor as well as through presentations, watching and listening to videos and the spoken word, practice activities and discussions. Throughout the course, you will be supported by your tutor who will discuss and agree personal targets to help you reach your potential.


Bring to the first session

You will be emailed a link to the Google Meet session. Just before 9:30, the start of the session, click on this link and you will either go straight into the session or into a waiting area and your tutor will let you join.

Extra study or practice

A requirement of this course is that you complete 37.5 hours of self-study. This is approximately 2.5 hours of study a week.

Step 1 GET IN CONTACT

Step 2 MEET YOUR TUTOR
We will invite you to an online meeting with your tutor. Appointment dates will be on 3rd, 10th & 17th September 2020.


Step 3 COMPLETE YOUR ENROLMENT
At your meeting, you and your tutor will agree a time for you to come to the ACRES House either on 8th, 15th or 24th September 2020, between 10 am and 2 pm.
