Yoga - Advanced (HE08L35A)

Learn the techniques that will help you become more grounded in the here and now and more able to access a sense of calm and ultimately of greater wellbeing. A real-time online yoga course with experienced yoga tutor Rachel Miller.

Course overview

Let Hatha yoga help you to access a state of true relaxation. If you find it a struggle to 'switch off', the asanas and breathing techniques covered by this course can encourage a focus on the here and now and promote a feeling of calm and a sense of well being both mentally and physically.

We would like to make you aware that this is an online version of the Yoga - Advanced course that normally Rachel delivers at the Community Centre in Heathfield and we hope to be able to offer the next Yoga-Advanced course starting in January back at this venue, subject to Covid-19 government guidelines. Please check our website for regular updates.

What you already need to know

It is designed to cater for advanced students who should have practised at least 4 years of Yoga. Students are expected to be able to understand and work within their personal movement range being able to use adjustment for any limitations they may have.

Due to the nature of this course, a degree of mobility is required. You will be expected to be able to access the floor from standing and sitting for lying asana and relaxation.

Please note: In the interest of safeguarding all our students this course is not suitable for those in early stages of pregnancy (16 weeks or before) or those who are pregnant and have no previous experience of yoga. We would recommend in both cases looking for a specialist prenatal or pregnancy yoga course.

What you will learn

In this course, you will

As a guide by the end of the course, you should have a greater awareness of your own body's movement range and recognise areas for developing flexibility and increased strength. You should also have identified potentially beneficial breathing and relaxation techniques.

Continuing your yoga practice beyond this course will help build and then maintain a sense of mental and physical well being.

How you will learn it

This is an online course taught in real-time by experienced Yoga tutor, Rachel Miller. Rachel will demonstrate new postures and techniques and guide you through each practice with clear verbal instructions and prompts. Props will be used where appropriate and movements broken down and then layered in order to develop a solid base from which you can progress. You will be encouraged to develop an awareness of your own body and movement patterns.

Bring to the first session

ACRES' online courses will be taught in real time using the video platform Google Meet, supported by other online resources. To ensure you get the most out of the course and can fully participate in the sessions you will interact with your tutor and other students through speaking, listening and the chat function, as well as being able to see each other via the video links, though you can turn off your camera and microphone at any time.

You will therefore need to have access to either a laptop, computer or portable device (eg tablet or phone) (this ideally needs to be less than 5 years old), with a camera / webcam and microphone, as well as a good broadband / Wi-Fi connection.

Though it is not essential, you may choose to create a separate email account for your online learning (preferably Gmail which is most compatible with Google Meet). This will give you the added security to allow you to share your email address with your tutor and other students on the course to enhance your learning experience, without disclosing your personal information.

At the start of the course and before each lesson your tutor will send you an invitation with a link to join the class and any further information including resources and equipment you will need for the lesson.

Previous students say

"Have found Yoga great for flexibility of the body and mind. Excellent Tutor. First rate course"

"Rachel, I would like to share with you and other students about the progress which I feel that I have made during the past couple of years since attending your class. As you know I am affected by positional vertigo which can hamper my life sometimes. When I come to my yoga class I adapt some of the movements and positions and it works for me. I also try to do at least half an hour each day at home first thing in the morning or last thing at night. I find that on a regular basis it helps to maintain flexibility and generally makes you feel a lot fitter."

"I am most proud of my increased flexibility and improved balance."

"This course has helped with my flexibility and ability to relax."

"I have enjoyed all of it but especially the relaxation at the end of the classes!"
