You will be expected to be able to access the floor from standing and sitting for lying asana and relaxation.

What you will learn

In this course, you will

As a guide by the end of the course, you should have a greater awareness of your own body's movement range and recognise areas for developing flexibility and increased strength. You should also have identified potentially beneficial breathing and relaxation techniques.

Continuing your yoga practice beyond this course will help build and then maintain a sense of mental and physical well being.

How you will learn it

This is an online course taught in real-time by experienced Yoga tutor, Rachel Miller. Rachel will demonstrate new postures and techniques and guide you through each practice with clear verbal instructions and prompts. Props are will be used where appropriate and movements broken down and then layered in order to develop a solid base from which you can progress. You will be encouraged to develop an awareness of your own body and movement patterns.

Bring to the first session

This course is taught online in real-time using a video platform (usually Google Meet), supported by other online resources.

You will need to have access to either a laptop, computer or portable device (eg tablet or phone). Your device will ideally need to be less than 5 years old, with a camera/webcam and microphone. You will also need a good broadband / Wi-Fi connection.

To ensure you get the most out of the course and can fully participate in the sessions please ensure that you, your mat and your device's camera is positioned so that the tutor can see your whole body. This way Rachel will be able to assess your movements and postures. However, for most of the session, you will not need to and should not be looking at the screen as most instructions will be given verbally.

You will be able to interact with your tutor through speaking, listening and the chat function, as well as being able to see each other via the video links if you wish, though you can also turn off your camera and microphone at any time.

Though not a prerequisite, we would advise that you create a separate email account for your online learning prior to the start of the course and let the ACRES' Office and your tutor know the address. This will be more secure and also allow you to share your email address with other students on the course to enhance your learning experience, without disclosing your personal information.

Previous students say

"Have found Yoga great for flexibility of the body and mind. Excellent Tutor. First rate course"

"Rachel, I would like to share with you and other students about the progress which I feel that I have made during the past couple of years since attending your class. As you know I am affected by positional vertigo which can hamper my life sometimes. When I come to my yoga class I adapt some of the movements and positions and it works for me. I also try to do at least half an hour each day at home first thing in the morning or last thing at night. I find that on a regular basis it helps to maintain flexibility and generally makes you feel a lot fitter."

"I am most proud of my increased flexibility and improved balance."

"This course has helped with my flexibility and ability to relax."

"I have enjoyed all of it but especially the relaxation at the end of the classes!"
