80 hours of guided learning (40 hours of classroom time, at least 40 hours of guided self-study)

This is an introductory teaching qualification which prepares learners for teaching and training in a wide range of contexts. There is no requirement to be in a teaching role as assessment can be by observed micro-teaching. These sessions are intensive and the learner will be expected to read around the subject in between sessions.

Assessments
There will be three written assessments and one micro-teach. Please note the micro-teaching assessment will take place during the last session on 10th July. An additional assessment day will be scheduled for the following Friday 17th July if necessary.
Where Uckfield College, Downsview Crescent, Uckfield, East Sussex, TN22 3DJ.
When Friday, 09:00am - 5:00pm from 12th June 2020 until 10th July 2020 for 5 weeks.
Cost The full fee is £447.00.


Additional Costs
You will be given a list of reading material and you might wish to purchase some of the books yourself. Some of the reading list books will be available to borrow from ACRES.To avoid unnecessary cost please do not purchase any materials or text books until you are certain that your course will run. Course decisions are normally made a week prior to the course start date. Course fees over £115 can be paid in one single payment at enrolment or in instalments by Standing Order. Please contact the office for details.

What you already need to know

You need have no prior knowledge of teaching, however you need to have a subject specialism that you plan to teach to others.

What you will learn

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training via Gateway is an introduction to teaching that will give an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching sessions and how to assess and give constructive feedback.

How you will learn it

You will be taught using a variety of methods, including group work, lecture, quizzes and games, discussion, question and answer and demonstrations to name but a few.

Your learning will be supported by access to the online resources and tutorials of https://teateaching.com/,a one-stop shop for teaching resources and materials, tutorials (TEAtorials) and an online staff room where you can meet other teaching professionals to share tips and stories.

Bring to the first session

You need to bring an A4 File, paper and a pen.

We ask that students arrive on time for each session. Each Friday go to the college reception to sign in and get a guest pass. Danielle the tutor will be there to meet you at reception and will take everyone together up to the classroom.

*** Please note: Lunch is not provided at the venue and if you chose to bring in a packed lunch you will have to eat this in the classroom as this course is one a school day. Off the college site, refreshments are available to purchase from the Sports Centre and Uckfield High Street with various cafes and shops is a short walk away. Please ask your tutor for directions.***

Extra study or practice

For every hour of teaching it is envisaged that you will spend at least the same amount researching around the different taught topics.

You will also be required to complete 3 written assessments and prepare for a 30 minute micro-teach.

Access to the internet outside of the sessions is essential. During the course resources will be shared via the TEA teaching website https://teateaching.com/ and following the completion of the course you will have access to all the materials and tutorials for 6 months. (The subscription is included in the course fee.)
