Course overview

This course will give you the opportunity to further develop your conversational skills through use of a range of authentic materials.

When Wednesday, 10:00am - 12:00pm from 25th September 2019 until 1st July 2020 for 30 weeks.

30th October , 11th, 18th & 25th December, 1st & 8th January, 19th February , 18th March & 25th March , 1st, 8th and 15th April, 27th May (Half term Holiday)

Cost The full fee is £473.00.


Additional Costs
The use of a textbook may be recommended, to support study in class and at home. It may also be useful to have access to a dictionary. Your tutor will advise at the first session. To avoid unnecessary cost please do not purchase any materials or text books until you are certain that your course will run. Course decisions are normally made a week prior to the course start date. Course fees over £115 can be paid in one single payment at enrolment or in instalments by Standing Order. Please contact the office for details.

During the course

This is an online course which will be taught in real time using a video platform (usually Google Meet), supported by other online resources. To ensure you get the most out of the course and can fully participate in the sessions you will interact with your tutor and other students through speaking,
listening and the chat function, as well as being able to see each other via the video links, though you can turn off your camera and microphone at any time. You will therefore need to have access to
either a laptop, computer or portable device (eg tablet or phone) (this ideally needs to be less than 5 years old), with a camera / webcam and microphone, as well as a good broadband / Wi-Fi connection.

Though not a prerequisite, we would advise that you create a separate email account for your online learning prior to the start of the course and let the ACRES' Office and your tutor know the address.This will be more secure and also allow you to share your email address with other students on thecourse to enhance your learning experience, without disclosing your personal information.

Please note that this course has been converted from the previously advertised classroom based
course and whilst we will endeavour to deliver the subject as outlined in the Course Information Sheet content may need to be adapted or changed to ensure you receive the best possible learning
experience. Your tutor will give you further details and information, including any resources or
equipment you need, prior to the start of the course.

You will be sent more information about your course, including how to join your online sessions, in
due course.

What you already need to know

This course is aimed at students who have either completed four years of study within an adult education setting, or equivalent, or completed an AS Level qualification, a similar level course, or an Intermediate Plus course last year.

What you will learn

- Advanced level of Grammar to enable you to create complex sentences with a wide range of vocabulary.
- Reading comprehension of texts in Italian followed by discussion.
- To express opinions and judgements about specific topics.

How you will learn it

- Group and individual conversation about specific topics.
- Reading comprehension assignments.
- Written assignments: 200/250 words.
- Translations of English into Italian
- Analysis of articles, books and texts from magazines including analysis of Italian book called Marcovaldo by Italo Calvino

The textbook used the previous year if applicable
Paper and pen.

Extra study or practice

- You must spend at least two hours per week completing preparation for topics and practising grammar, if you are going to fulfil your learning potential on this course.

- You will be given additional tasks to complete at home if you wish to do so, but these will always be optional.
