Develop further your DSLR skills whilst taking advantage of the evening light to explore a variety of creative projects. A great course for continuing students or confident beginners.

Course overview

To aim of this course is to develop further DSLR skills and continue to inspire and inform creativity and positive picture making through studying different genres of photography. You will learn advanced compositional techniques and creative picture making.

This is a continuation of the course of the beginners' courses that ran in the Autumn and Winter terms. Please contact the ACRES office to enquire about spaces if you have not previously enrolled on this course. When enrolling please give the office details of your camera so that this can be passed to the tutor prior to the start of the course.

When Wednesday, 7:00pm - 9:00pm from 13th May 2020 until 8th July 2020 for 8 weeks.

Cost The full fee is £98.00. The concessionary fee is £52.00.

Course fees over £115 can be paid in one single payment at enrolment or in instalments by Standing Order. Please contact the office for details.

During the course

This is an online course which will be taught in real time using a video platform (usually Google Meet), supported by other online resources. To ensure you get the most out of the course and can fully participate in the sessions you will interact with your tutor and other students through speaking,
listening and the chat function, as well as being able to see each other via the video links, though you can turn off your camera and microphone at any time. You will therefore need to have access to
either a laptop, computer or portable device (eg tablet or phone) (this ideally needs to be less than 5 years old), with a camera / webcam and microphone, as well as a good broadband / Wi-Fi connection.

Though not a prerequisite, we would advise that you create a separate email account for your online learning prior to the start of the course and let the ACRES' Office and your tutor know the address.This will be more secure and also allow you to share your email address with other students on thecourse to enhance your learning experience, without disclosing your personal information.

Please note that this course has been converted from the previously advertised classroom based
course and whilst we will endeavour to deliver the subject as outlined in the Course Information Sheet content may need to be adapted or changed to ensure you receive the best possible learning
experience. Your tutor will give you further details and information, including any resources or
equipment you need, prior to the start of the course.

What you already need to know

This course is suitable for learners who completed previous beginners course with Toby in September and/or January or those who have some experience and are relatively confident in using a DSLR.

What you will learn

During this course, learners will have the opportunity to engage with a wide range of photographic genres and be shown how to select appropriate modes for different types of photography and accurately expose photographs in the variety of modes.

How you will learn it

There will be tutor-led tutorials and hands-on practical exercises throughout the course with plenty of time allowed for you to explore and experiment. There will also be the opportunity for group discussions about a variety of photography topics and all subjects taught throughout the course will be supported by presentations, demonstrations and handouts. Weather permitting, there will also be the opportunity to take on some guided photo walks during the lesson, giving students the opportunity to apply skills and techniques in a range of locations local to Uckfield.

Additional assignments are issued each week to help students practice the topics taught in each lesson.
