Course overview

During the workshop you will have an opportunity to learn how to use block printing and lino-cutting printmaking techniques to create single coloured and multi-coloured prints.

During the course

What you already need to know

This is an 'all abilities' course and is suitable for beginners with no or very little experience of printmaking and students who have some experience of printmaking.

What you will learn

You will learn how to use 2 different printmaking techniques to create single coloured and multi-coloured prints:

block printing techniques (using quickprint or cardboard blocks)
lino-cutting techniques to create a single colour print (using softcut or lino blocks)

How you will learn it

You will learn and develop your printmaking skills as you work through the different techniques. Your learning will be supported by tutor demonstration, practical work, individual tuition, and through discussing and sharing ideas with other students within the group.

Hand-outs will be used to enhance your learning and examples of original work as well as a range of artist's books will be on hand to inspire you.

What do I need to bring to the first session?

Please bring:

an apron (if required)
your own supply of latex gloves (if required)
pencils

(All printing materials provided)

How much extra study or practice is involved?

During the course your tutor will advise you about different artists or movements which may be relevant to your own work. After the course, you will be able to carry out your own research and continue to use these simple techniques and develop your ideas at home if you wish to.

What do previous students say?

"I've loved learning different print techniques and being able to use them at home without needing lots of equipment." (Chris)

"I feel much freer to experiment and not be afraid to try mixing materials." (Kathrine)
