Welcome

Welcome to the Adult College for Rural East Sussex (ACRES). We offer a wide range of adult learning courses across the Wealden area. Use our course search facility to explore our diverse programme and to look for a course you might like. If there is a subject you would like to study which we do not currently offer, please do let us know and assuming there is enough student demand we will do what we can to make it happen!

The Adult College for Rural East Sussex (ACRES) manages the adult learning programme in Hailsham, Heathfield Uplands Claverham and Uckfield Community Colleges.

It serves the rural area of East Sussex and provides courses in Claverham, Crowborough, Hailsham, Heathfield, Uckfield and Wadhurst and their surrounding areas.

The management of the College is overseen by a Board made up of the Principals of the Community Colleges and a representative of East Sussex County Council.

The main ACRES' Office is located at Uckfield College and we have evening offices at Claverham, Hailsham, Uplands, Uckfield and Heathfield Community Colleges. We are delighted that in October 2016, Claverham Adult Learning, previously based at Claverham Community College, Battle, joined ACRES.

Courses are held in the daytime in community based locations and in the evenings at the different community colleges and a range of community based venues. One day workshop courses are held throughout the year.

ACRES receives funding from the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and offers courses that lead to a qualification, such as GCSEs and Functional Skills in Maths and English, along with courses that do not lead to a qualification and help people develop new skills, knowledge, hobbies, interests.or help to improve their well-being. Our programme is diverse and is fundamentally based on what our learners and communities want/need so please do take a look and see what we have to offer you.

Ever thought of teaching adults? We recruit tutors who can help us deliver courses which meet the needs and interests of our learners and communities we serve, based on market research. Take a look at our vacancies page for any current vacancies. If you do not have a teaching qualification we can help you and offer you an accredited qualification whilst working with us as well as one to one mentoring support. Many of our tutors joined us as practitioners and we are proud to have developed them into the tutors they are now. Tutors who are passionate about their subject and sharing their knowledge, skills and experience is fundamental to our learning ethos.
