Community Development Courses

ACRES Community Developmet work aims to widen participation by engaging learners who would not normally take part in Adult Learning.

Our aim is to reach residents in the market towns of Crowborough, Hailsham, Heathfield, Uckfield, Wadhurst and surrounding areas. Our priority are groups who would normally find it difficult to access Adult Education for reasons such as health, disability, finance, isolation and responsibility for dependants.

While the outcome of our work may sometimes be that the learners continue on to further learning or employment this is not our only objective and sometimes the group or community may be left enriched or with a better link to the wider community as a result of our course.

Courses

As part of this Community Development work ACRES develops bespoke taster and short courses designed to meet the identified needs of the groups in these areas. Some of these courses may be similar to courses in the ACRES prospectus eg Beginners IT but others will be quite unique to the group eg How to Use a Digital Television. Our courses are organised through partnership projects with local groups and organisations. Partner organisations may provide premises, support staff, transport or materials costs as part of their involvement. These courses are often delivered at the partner organisation's premises.

Course lengths and charges

Courses can be any length from a single session to a maximum of ten hours. An initial course is FREE. Continuation courses can be aranged with a small fee for each student.
