Welcome to the Adult College for Rural East Sussex
A warm welcome to the Adult College for Rural East Sussex's programme of courses for 2010/2011.
The new brochure is full of exciting and stimulating quality courses, this year we introduce some new ones alongside the established programme, all designed to inspire you to achieve your chosen goal. So if you're new to adult learning or coming back for another course we are sure you'll find it here.
We really have something for everyone this year, whether you want to take up a new interest for personal or professional development or gain a nationally recognised qualificaiton. In 2009 ACRES was awarded the Matrix Standard in recognition of the high quality of impartial information and advice we offer to students.
For those who perhaps can't commit to a daytime or evening course we have our Weekend Workshops that we offer at various venues and times throughout the year. These though prove very popular so make sure you book well in advance.
We know for some students the biggest barrier to joining an adult learning course is the cost. There are ways that ACRES may be able to help you: if you are eligible you may be able to pay reduced fees; you can pay by instalments if the course fee is over £60 and we also have a learner hardship fund you can apply to for funding. See the 'General Information' section within the prospectus, click on 'Student Support' on the website or ring 01825 761820 for more information.
Don't miss out on the opportunity to challenge yourself and change your life, enrol today and discover a new you.

ACRES English Workshop - Margaret Adams
The students in the Skills for Life English Workshop have been writing their own poetry. This is how they got on...
Out for a walk one day old Mr Bumble
Tripped on a stone and took a tumble.
He picked himself up with a grumble
Because he had not meant to stumble.
He wanted to go to the sale of jumble,
And have a pudding for lunch, like apple crumble.
The weather turned bad and the thunder did rumble,
But fearing rain he continued to mumble.
Searching for his brolly made him fumble.
On his way home, he was feeling rather humble.
By Paul Manners
Do try not to stumble
As circumstances crumble
If you’ve cause to mumble
And things are in a jumble
Then the thunder starts to rumble
And your nerves begin to bumble
You might begin to fumble
But in order not to tumble
Remember to be humble.

ACRES Celebration Evening
Friday 20th November marked the third annual Celebration Evening held by ACRES to recognise the success of students participating in examination and accredited courses during the last academic year. The venue this year was the library at Uckfield Community Technology College, and certificates were presented by the course tutors or, in their absence, by the Curriculum Co-ordinator for the Examination and General Interest Courses, with glasses being raised to toast the considerable achievements of students. There was a display, for students and their guests to view, of photographs from the AS Photography course, and two displays from non-accredited courses: Spanish and Creative Writing . The evening offered a pleasant and sociable celebration, for staff and students alike, which has become a welcome addition to the ACRES annual calendar.

ACRES receives funding from the Skills Funding Agency.
