Adult College for Rural East Sussex

Another Boring Weekend?

Weekends should be all about relaxation, a time to unwind and leave the stresses and strains of the week behind. That’s why ACRES developed a range of Weekend Workshops to put the spring back in your step on Saturdays.

Do you fancy turning your heels to 15th Century Italian Dance, Salsa or Belly Dance, or have a hand in making Jewellery, Painting on Silk or Aromatherapy. How about discovering the good life with Chicken Keeping, Growing Your Own Veg or the delights of Turkish Cookery. Maybe Digital SLR Photography is more your bag or Writing for Magazines. Whatever you choose you’ll find all this and much more at ACRES.

The next Workshop is at Hailsham Community College on Saturday March 20th 2010

Enrolment couldn’t be simpler just call 01825 761820 to enrol or to request a brochure.

Welcome to the Adult College for Rural East Sussex

A warm welcome to the Adult College for Rural East Sussex’s programme of courses for 2009-10.

The programme is full of a range of exciting, high quality courses, some new ones as well as some that have proven to be popular in the past, hopefully providing learning opportunities that will appeal to everyone.

We aim to offer an excellent service whether you want to learn a new skill, take up a new interest for pleasure or personal development or gain a nationally recognised qualification. ACRES offers free impartial information and advice to help you choose the right course for you and in March 2009 we were awarded the Matrix Standard in recognition of the high standard of information and advice we offer to students.

There is a new section in the programme this year called ‘Workplace Skills’ and these courses are aimed at providing you with useful skills for the workplace and include Sage, Accounting, NVQs and ICT courses.

Don’t miss out – enrol today and enjoy learning!

ACRES Creative Writing for All
In our final session before Christmas, the Creative Writing for All group had a quick try at Christmas Haiku. This is a form of poetry that has three lines, the first and third of five syllables and the second of seven, ideally with a ‘turn’ between the first and second or second and third. This is how they got on...

Penguins in the snow
All looking for Christmas cheer
Only left with fear.

Christmas mistletoe
Only comes round once a year
Puppies having fun.

Red hat on my head
Doesn’t make a happy dog
Someone feed me please.

ACRES Celebration Evening
Friday 20th November marked the third annual Celebration Evening held by ACRES to recognise the success of students participating in examination and accredited courses during the last academic year. The venue this year was the library at Uckfield Community Technology College, and certificates were presented by the course tutors or, in their absence, by the Curriculum Co-ordinator for the Examination and General Interest Courses, with glasses being raised to toast the considerable achievements of students. There was a display, for students and their guests to view, of photographs from the AS Photography course, and two displays from non-accredited courses: Spanish and Creative Writing . The evening offered a pleasant and sociable celebration, for staff and students alike, which has become a welcome addition to the ACRES annual calendar.
